Big Band Arranging Contest!

The Odyssey is in need of custom arrangements or brand new original charts to spice up our setlist! Submissions are due 11:59 April 30th, 2025. See requirements below:

Your Arrangement:

Write a new jazz chart, whether it's an arrangement of a classic or your own original. About 3-5 minutes in runtime, any style. Feel free to include solo sections. The sky is the limit with your arrangement!

Instrumentation

• 2 Altos, 2 tenors, 1 bari

• Alto 1 may double on flute

• Alto 2 may double on flute or piccolo

• Tenor 1 may double on Bb clarinet, flute, piccolo, or bass clarinet

• 5 Trombones, including bass

• 5 Trumpets

• Drums, keys, upright or electric bass, guitar

• Auxiliary percussion

• Male and female vocals (encouraged but not required)

The Odyssey strives for a modern style while maintaining deep roots in the early big band style of Count Basie. Some of our favorites are Sammy Nestico, Dave Wolpe, Stan Kenton, Bob Curnow, and Anything Frank Sinatra
